Lock Every Door

Rating – ***

To read or not to read – Read it!

Synopsis – The plot revolves around the main character, Jules, who has been brought on as an apartment sitter in the famous Barthomelew building in Manhattan. At first, it feels like a dream come true. As things unravel, Jules realizes there might be something more sinister at play.

Review – I first came across this book in the recommended for you section on Amazon, right after I had finished ‘Final Girls’ by the same author. ‘Final Girls’ was hardly a stellar read, with the ending too obvious halfway into the novel. Needless to say, it was hard to consider another read when the first book disappointed. Going through the book, however, it was a pleasant surprise.

To begin with, the character is easy to relate to, which is one of the most important requirements for me. Additionally, the atmosphere the author builds with the historical Barthomelew, its residents, the tease of the things that lie in its dark recesses, was fantastic.

My only complaint was that this book could have been shorter and that the twist, once again, was too obvious a little earlier than I’d like. Still, I’d recommend this one – simply for its characters and the creeps it delivers!
